We love MOTD COSMETICS Highlighting Powder in Something Magical. This draws more attention to that area, making the whole nose look smaller. Use a bright concealer or a soft highlighter to apply a very thin line down the bridge of your nose, Otis says. Be sure to blend the color on the bridge of the nose down the sides of the nose, creating the illusion of a thinner bridge. To ensure there are no harsh lines, “use a fluffy brush or your fingertips to blend the lines of contour that you’ve applied,” Otis says. You can also apply the contour product under the tip to shorten the nose, if you so choose. Otis says to apply a slightly curved line towards the tip for a cute rounded nose look. Contour the Tip of Your Noseĭon’t forget the tip of the nose. You want these contour lines to be as straight as possible and as thin as possible for a sculpted look. We love ICONIC LONDON Multi Use Cream Contour Palette. Contour palettes can be especially helpful in finding the exact shade for your natural skin tone. “Using a cream product to contour with makes it easy to get the look you want while also looking natural, as you can easily blend the product to get a skin like effect,” she says. She likes cream contour products over contour powders for beginners. Otis prefers one without any shimmer for the most natural look, such as 19/99 BEAUTY’s Cream Contour Sticks. Typically, you'll want to use a matte bronzer or a cool-toned contour powder that's two shades darker than your skin tone. For more details and ordering information, see the CPK Gift Cards page. Maria Shriver: Did you ever ask yourself, "Why am I doing this? Should I change course and maybe try to get some of the things on that list?" riser-so I could write for a couple of hours and then give my employer my very best second-rate energy. That's when I began to get up so early in the morning-you know I'm a 5 A.M. Not that I didn't take some teaching jobs over the years-I just never took any interesting ones, because I didn't want to get interested. A house, a good car, I couldn't go out and buy fancy clothes or go to good restaurants. Mary Oliver: Would not have, because I thought poets never made any money. When I was very young and decided I wanted to try to write as well as I could, I made a great list of all the things I would never have. For most of my life, I haven't had the structure of an actual job. I never think of myself as a poet I just get up and write. Mary Oliver: I consider myself kind of a reporter-one who uses words that are more like music and that have a choreography. Maria Shriver: What does it mean to you to be a poet? I can't wait until morning-it'll be gone. I have a rule that if I wake up at 3 in the morning and think of something, I write it down. It's very important to write things down instantly, or you can lose the way you were thinking out a line. Maria Shriver: Because you always walk with a notepad. They say if Mary is taking a walk, and she begins to walk slower and slower, and finally she's standing still scribbling, you know it was a successful walk. But in Provincetown now, there's a little story that is sweet. Mary Oliver: My parents didn't care very much what I did, and that was probably a blessing. Maria Shriver: When you would wander in the woods and write, did people ever think you were crazy? But when you love what you're doing, honestly, you can get better. I often say if you could lay out all the writing I did in those years, it would go to the moon and back. I spent a great deal of time in my younger years just writing and reading, walking around the woods in Ohio, where I grew up. So as much as I possibly could, I stayed where I was happy. We all have a hungry heart, and one of the things we hunger for is happiness. Mary Oliver: When you can't help but go there. How do you know when something is a calling? ![]() Maria Shriver: Mary, you've told me that for you, poetry is and always was a calling. Start reading Maria Shriver's interview with Mary Oliver Suddenly, I had a bond with one of my heroes!Īs the afternoon unfolded, Mary opened up about spirituality, life callings, and how, at 75, she's finally come to terms with loss and her troubled childhood-and has never felt happier. As we spoke, I was thrilled to hear her describe herself as a "reporter," since my daughter has called my own poems "reporter poetry" (as opposed to real poetry). Mary was gracious enough to see me again in December, to talk about herself and her work for this special issue of O. (Her fans are everywhere Laura Bush is one, Martha Beck another.) Though she's a Pulitzer Prize winner and America's best-selling poet, Mary almost never gives interviews, and you could have heard a pin drop when she took the stage. And I was overjoyed when-after politely declining my invitations for six straight years-Mary finally agreed to read at my annual Women's Conference in California last fall, joining speakers like Michelle Obama and Eve Ensler. The more I learned about Mary, the more there was to admire: not just her words but the unconventional life she lived in Provincetown, Massachusetts, with her partner, the photographer Molly Malone Cook, who died of cancer in 2005. I started quoting her in speeches, and even put one poem, "The Journey," on my desk, where I still read it often. Her work is uplifting and full of courage-it's about the natural world, but also about larger themes like love, survival, gratitude, joy-and it spoke to me. He thought I'd like her poems because she's such an independent woman, and he was right. My brother Timothy turned me on to Mary Oliver about ten years ago. A poem I wrote for my mother when she was dying really helped me get through that hard time. I read it almost every day, and I've even taken a stab at writing some of my own. O guest editor Maria Shriver visits the masterly Mary Oliver to hear about the bold new course she's charting in her poetry and her life. Obviously this one is a retelling of Cinderella. It’s no joke that this series it based off the retellings of fairy tales we’ve heard. Blaming Cinder for her daughter’s illness, Cinder’s stepmother volunteers her body for plague research, an “honor” that no one has survived.īut it doesn’t take long for the scientists to discover something unusual about their new guinea pig. He jokingly calls it “a matter of national security,” but Cinder suspects it’s more serious than he’s letting on.Īlthough eager to impress the prince, Cinder’s intentions are derailed when her younger stepsister, and only human friend, is infected with the fatal plague that’s been devastating Earth for a decade. This reputation brings Prince Kai himself to her weekly market booth, needing her to repair a broken android before the annual ball. Being cyborg does have its benefits, though: Cinder’s brain interference has given her an uncanny ability to fix things (robots, hovers, her own malfunctioning parts), making her the best mechanic in New Beijing. ![]() Sixteen-year-old Cinder is considered a technological mistake by most of society and a burden by her stepmother.
